Like the belts on nearly all the treadmills we tested, the belt on the 505 CST folds up to save a small amount of floor space when the machine is not in use. (If you are an especially tall runner, namely over 6 feet, look to our upgrade pick.) The warranty lasts 10 years for the frame, one year for the parts (including the motor), and one year for labor. The belt is 55 inches long and the weight capacity is 325 pounds, specs that accommodate most walkers and runners.

The console has two large water-bottle holders, and two media shelves and an integrated tablet holder let you easily read or watch a device while you work out. The ProForm 505 CST comes with 18 interval training programs, and the buttons in the interface are intuitively laid out. It feels sturdy underfoot, even at max incline and speed. The machine goes up to 10 miles per hour, inclines up to 10 percent, and has a speedy motor that allows you to adjust those settings much faster than on some of its pricier competitors. The ProForm 505 CST has all the features most people need in a treadmill, yet it’s also one of the least expensive models we considered. We cover more details about both recalls here. Separately, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Peloton have also recalled and stopped the sale of the lower-priced Peloton Tread due to the potential of the touchscreen to detach and fall. Peloton has stopped the sale of the Tread+. The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Peloton have issued a voluntary recall of the Peloton Tread+ following more than 70 reported incidents, including one child’s death. When we are able, we intend to test the new Pro 2000, as well as the Sole F80, the Echelon Stride, the Horizon Fitness 7.0 AT, and the NordicTrack Commercial 2950. The pandemic has delayed our treadmill testing plans. Our upgrade pick, the ProForm Smart Pro 2000, has been redesigned (and dropped the “Smart” from its name).

We’ll link to trusted sources as we find them, but we expect issues to persist. We’ve noticed stock issues with many of the products we tested for this guide-including our picks-as people continue to outfit their home gyms.
